We have had on TV various
reports on NTMA including a half hour special report on how you can get trained for a new career as a machinist at the NTMA
Training Centers in Los Angeles County. NTMA is supported by manufacturers and the training is targeted to get students
ready to work for local manufacturing companies. Call NTMA at (800) 962-NTMA or go to www.trainingcenters.org for information. See our various reports below.
SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA COMPANIES ARE HIRING MACHINISTS
Update September 20, 2011 The NTMA Training Centers just held a job fair for current
students and graduates and Southern California companes were there looking for trained machinists for jobs that are open now.
Many of the open jobs are in the aerospace and automotive and medical equipment businesses. We were there for the job
fair and spoke to the employers and we spoke to some NTMA graduates about their new jobs and about the continuing support
they get from NTMA after graduation. Watch our new TV report below.
FEBRUARY 2011 REPORT ON NTMA: GRADS ARE GETTING JOBS
In our follow up report on NTMA we found that hiring for NTMA graduates has been picking up. In
fact, we were told that job opportunities haven't been this high in the longest time for NTMA graduates. Watch our video
report below from February 2011 and for more information call the NTMA Training Centers for a career as a machinist at (800)
962-NTMA or go to www.trainingcenters.org for information.
MORE ABOUT THE NTMA TRAINING CENTERS
You may have seen my half hour report on NTMA. We present that half hour
report here, in three parts. NTMA -- the National Tooling and Machine Association -- operates schools in Ontario
and Norwalk for teaching the skills of a machinist. This is a hands on school. In addition to machine shop tools,
students learn about computers and computer controlled equipment. This is a high tech career that can mean high
pay and strong job security. Financial aid is available for those who quality; there is also job placement assistance,
and you do not need a high school diploma to enroll. About eighty percent of the students at NTMA land a job following
graduation. I was very impressed to meet the employers who depend on NTMA to train and prepare workers for their businesses
here in Southern California. NTMA is a not for profit association, and there is advanced training at no cost to graduates
of NTMA. Call NTMA at (800) 962-NTMA or go to their website at www.trainingcenters.org for information. Ask about the free tours of the campuses.
In Part
1 of our report about NTMA and its machinist training we look at the school, and how students range from 18 years old
to over 55 years of age, and how the training involves computers and high tech equipment, and how these students find jobs
in aerospace, automotive, manufacturing and medical businesses. Also, you will meet some of the employers who hire graduates
from NTMA like Atra-Flex in Santa Ana which employs NTMA grads. You'll hear from some of the graduates of NTMA
and how they found job security as a machinist after working in construction or as a carpenter or in a retail store.
Here
is part two of our special report on NTMA and training it offers to get you ready for a job as a machinist. One of the
employers featured in makes full size models for the auto industry.
Here is the
third part of our special report about training for a new career as a machinist and the opportunities these jobs and careers
can give you.
In the report below, I show you how students at
NTMA have designed, developed and built award-winning inventions including a new kind of tire iron or lug wrench to make it
easier to change a flat tire, especially for people who don't want to bend or can't bend to use a traditional tire iron.
Another invention created by NTMA students is a new kind of styrofoam cutting device that makes a clean cut in styrofoam used
in construction such as in moldings on buildings that will be covered with concrete. The styrofoam cutting device uses
heat in a "hot wire" to literally melt the styrofoam and this prevents debris and shavings from polluting the environment.
Also, you will see how NTMA students designed and built fighting robots and these robots have major applications for all sorts
of industrial equipment.
In the videos below, I give you an overview of the training
at NTMA and the career opportunities that follow.
